An analysis of the lack of healthy food options available on the east side of Buffalo, NY

My project focused on the lack of healthy food options available to residents on the east side of Buffalo, New York. It involved an analysis of corner stores in terms of the type of food that is already available in these stores. Working along side the Healthy Corner Store Initiative, I helped develop a survey that would help access this information. I also focused on another issue which dealt with the ways that design affects food purchases and choices for people. The goal of my study was to facilitate healthy food purchases through the environment. Students should get involved in projects like these to be merge their academic experience to real life applications. Research also allows students to form professional relationships with people that are in their same field of study.
